For many, if not all, having purpose sustains emotional stability. Losing purpose is often a catalyst for feeling lost or depressed and lacking vision in life. For those who’ve felt a lack of purpose, you know intimately the hollowness that it can bring to your day-to-day experience.
Here’s the thing: We’re all here for an assignment whether we care about the assignment or not. Each of us have different assignments, but unfortunately they’re not doled out by a white-haired elder with detailed directions — although there are many people placed in our paths as guides.
Our mission is to find a way through the labyrinth of life. We’re here to seek clues to our maps, which will never be revealed in fast forward, they will only be evident from looking at our past. We will start to realize we’re on the right path when we’re able to reflect on our past, which will leave clear clues that everything has been laid out for your highest learning.
Once you begin to see the challenges you’ve faced, it will be clear that the destruction, and the pain have been part of your awakening. Until you’re able to see that with clarity, without blaming others, without judging yourself, without needing to understand the whole story, without holding tight to the pain of your past, you will not be able to understand that there is a map designed just for you.
The difficult part will be yourself, having to look at who you are, how you show up in your life, and the ways you need support. You will need to willingly seek guidance from those who are trained. Not your friends, you will need to trust in a stranger, and likely more than one. You will have to learn to trust to reveal your pains to someone who can be tender with them, who can hold all of the parts of you that have been hurt and help you muddle through the darkness.
You will have to step in front of the part of you that is scared to have someone else see you, the part of you that fears that something bad might happen if you’re seen. The part of you that fears letting go, the part of you that wants control and is certain no one is able to support you better than you’re able to support yourself. You will have to do many hard things and that will continue to transpire through your entire life.
Some of you might be brought to your knees, begging for life to soften and praying that you will be released by the force of pain ravaging your life. Once you get to this part, you’re getting closer; it might feel like you’re getting further, but in truth, you’re getting warmer. You’re being asked to awaken to the dissolution of your life, you are being asked to trust in something greater than your mind. You’ve become confused, thinking your mind is all knowing, when in fact there is a much greater force, there is a power much more potent and awe inspiring than your mind that is here for you.
You are being asked to see that.
In retrospect you will understand that your entire life has been choices made one-by-one in the name of love, in avoidance of love, in fear of love, or in hope of love. You will see each of your days woven together as a tapestry of missteps, vibrant joy, unruled struggles, mischievous curiosity, wild control, and untethered love. At times your life will feel in disrepair, but each step and movement will come together to craft your life.
This puzzling experience is meant to break you open; you’re being asked to be more purposeful in your body. It is teaching you to be more capable of being in yourself, less likely of running away from and escaping from yourself. Continuing to run from ourselves and from our storms is causing our struggles, and the ease at which we can distract ourselves is impressively skillful.
All the ways you avoid quiet moments with yourself, you’re avoiding this life that is meant to wake you up to yourself.
Each choice is part of your map, and each time you choose, every time you make a choice, it’s for your highest learning.
Your tapestry of experiences is meant to shake you up, they are the agreements you made with your soul before you came here in human form to wake yourself up. If you choose to wake up, you could connect with the divinity of the universe, your universe.
The fixation we have with other people, the thoughts and words that we speak of other people are grand acts of distraction. Waste no more time worrying something has gone wrong. All these pieces of your story that have come together are places where you are in your favour.
If you’re struggling to understand why you’re here, what your purpose is, if you’re confused by what is happening for you, take a deep breath and slow down. Connect with the sounds of the birds chirping, listen to the wind, feel the movements of the earth — truth lies there. Notice the ways you’re avoiding getting to know yourself, to love yourself, to allow others to love you. Everyone is here to help with finding that which you came here to know – you.
Love, Noelle
