Thoughts. We have so many thoughts they can seem never ending. They plague our minds all day long, and seem to control and manipulate our reality.  We are endlessly directed by our thoughts.

Sometimes the thoughts we have can break down our sense of well being, happiness or inner peace. Thoughts can be passionately positive, or destructively negative.

Where do your thoughts come from, and who controls them? Which part of you initiates these thoughts, and which thoughts are worthy of believing? Which thoughts are worth listening to?

Do you find yourself battling with combative thoughts, and believing you are not good enough if you don’t… or not good enough because… or I won’t be liked if you don’t… or don’t have enough…?

Can you instead allow yourself to bear witness to your thoughts? In the moments you notice your thoughts are wildly or subtly unkind, demonstratively demeaning or just plain cruel – see if you can say something kind to yourself. You can remind yourself that the thoughts are not true. You can say, “I love me. I am loved. I am worthy. I don’t believe these words I am saying, I know I am better than what I am saying to myself.”

It might help to think of negative thoughts as being run by an unconscious program that was installed after something challenging or traumatic occurred in your life. They became part of a practice to keep you safe, but what if they are thoughts from the past that no longer serve you? Could it be time to start witnessing how they are coming between you and your ability to feel good, happy and at peace?

Ask yourself these questions: What is coming between you, and you being happy? What thoughts are ruling your life? Do you want to believe these thoughts anymore? Are you willing to believe a different reality? Are you willing to start reprogramming the negative thoughts?

If you are willing to hear and believe different thoughts, then you must be willing to admit that you can program your thoughts. You can rewire your inner system in a way that will allow you to think in more loving and supportive ways. You can create a world in which you listen to the thoughts that you like. In the same way you choose which musical genres and musicians appeal to you, you are also free to choose which thoughts reflect the life you want and the internal relationship you want to build.

Decide which thoughts you believe in, and shuffle these into your inner dialogue. When you notice the old program playing, simply insert the new program you want to install. It may seem fake and difficult to believe at first, but over time, with a regular daily practice, you will begin to feel a shift. Your inner landscape will change, and you will feel at ease. You will notice your success when you can shut down your non-constructive inner monologue. You will see it as you recognize you are actually the creator of your life.
